After our previous attempt I figured I'd take a look around because what we were told just seemed.....off.....no offense meant to anyone, COrrect full information is much better than partial incorrect information.

So here's a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoQwGt6_SAI

Some things of note.....I found a few other videos.....one had the raid positioned in the center of the room....and the tank moved malygos around the outside away from the sparks. The sparks were pulled to the center of the room, and rooted there on top of the raid. Then killed. This second way seems to be friendly to 10 man raids. But the point of this post is to focus on the tactic used Saturday.

The sparks DO NOT cause damage to the raid. Malygos will randomly cast Arcane Storm on the raid.

In regards to pulling the sparks to the raid as a DK:
  • Untalented, unglyphed Death Grip has a 35 sec cool down and a 30 yard range.
  • The sparks show up every 20 secs and takes around 10 secs to get to a point where they are pullable to the group.
  • In a couple of instances, it appears there is basically a spark within range every 10 seconds(According to the above video he creates one before and after the vortex, and the one before the vortex stops moving until it's over).
What this means is Death Grip will be on cool down for the DK who dg's the first spark, if you only have one DK, you should not expect that DK to pull the sparks to the group every time in this case and there should be a contigency plan for this. As stated in the video, the sparks can be slowed or rooted or snared etc.(This means if there is someone in the raid who can stop something in it's tracks and there isn't a requirement for it to be humanoid, the you can stop it from moving). Basically...if you see the DK use DG, or you realize that your standing in the buff area, the you need to either kill the next spark, or root or snare it if you can so the DK can have enough time for DG to be back up to pull it in. This never happened, and sadly I didn't understand enough of the fight to explain it.

Positioning - from the get go it felt like something was really wrong and after seeing the video, my intial thoughts were confirmed based on the tactic we were trying to use:
  • Our positioning was WRONG for the tactic. It was explained correctly but we were just off.
  • In the video the tank was directly north, we had this.
  • The raid was positioned directly behind malygos direct south, right behind the tail. We did not do this(note it was stated multiple times that Malygos does not have a tailwhip, not sure why we were positioned where we were). We were ALWAYS positioned to the west or south west side of Malygos, this causes issue for pulling the spark to the group as if you do, the Spark will HAVE to go through Malygos in order to get it to the group if it's on the east side of him, and he wil automatically get the buff.
  • The sparks generally come from the same spots (there are little Stars that can be seen twinkling...those are where they come from). With the correct positioning...it's appears that it is actually easy to see and pull the sparks.
  • One thing that does need to happen is we always need to go back to the same spots. This didn't always happen.
All this said, I hope I have provided some clarity and I also hope everyone watches this video and the others so we can do it right next time. It's really frustrating to try and do something and in the back of your head be thinking, "Ya know, this doesn't seem like it will work right", and not know how to explain it correctly because yah don't have all the pertinent information. For all intents and purposes, Malygos should have gotten his socks rocked in that first phase.

I would also suggestion taking a looking and the center-circle tactic(oddly enough this is similar to another boss....wierd huh).

Once again, trying to be helpful, in my own rude sort of way.
